Outside T1 - First PM session

The first year I came to VIR with CLASS, Fred loaned me his scooter to drive down to the inside of T1, the corner worker on duty cut me some slack on where I could shoot from - and it worked OK.

The second year I came to VIR with CLASS, Fred loaned me his scooter, the corner worker cut me no slack at all and T1 was a bust.

This year, Fred's scooter was left behind in Florida - and now that my legs are in their 6th decade I didn't feel like the long hike in the sun down to the inside of T1. Especially after young Bert - the Track safety guy at VIR - had indicated that he took my safety seriously and would not approve of some ol' fart sitting trackside trying to take shots of you intrepid folk whizzing by on your two-wheeled rockets...

So many of you were asking if I was going to shoot in T1 that I finally succumbed - and decided to see if there was a shot from the outside, under a nice big shade tree. Well the shade tree was there OK, but so were half the bugs in Southern Virginia - and even with a 600mm lens you were all far, far away. So far away in fact that I would have needed the bloody Hubbell telescope to get a close up! As it was, the wide view I had still did not help - most of you were taking such wide lines that the skipper of an ocean liner would have been proud of you...

Oh well, maybe next year...
